Real Time Simulation and Power Converters are converging into the field known as Power Hardware in the Loop (PHiL). In these kind of applications, a real world system is simulated on a real-time basis and then emulated: converted in real voltage, current and power. This emulation is performed by a power converter that transforms the reference signal generated by the real time simulator into a voltage or current waveform. A power converter used in such a way is generally known as a power amplifier.
In our product line, all models except the GE+ vAC and the EL+ vAC include the power amplifier functionality and can be used in PHiL applications. Power amplifier is just one of the functionalities of the units and they can be used in standard applications from our software or MODBUS interface.
Where an AC regenerative voltage source with power amplifier functionality is needed, the different versions of GE+ (except the vAC only) will be the right choice. When an AC regenerative current source working as an amplifier is necessary the best fit will be any version of EL+ (except the vAC only). In DC applications the amplifier job will be done by a B2C+ or any version AC/DC.
Of course, our top of range All-in-one products (GE/EL+) include the power amplifier mode, so they can also be used for PHiL and, thanks to the experience gained in this field, CINERGIA has even created a specific line of products, the vHiL models, that are technically and economically optimized for Power Hardware in the Loop applications.
